Re: Verizon Sucks

Oh yes, they do.

So, I have their FIOS Internet. Originally a good deal. 10/2 (down/upload) for $34.99/month (this was 3 years ago when Time Warner was only giving us 4/1 for $44.99/month)

A year later, they increase it to $39.99/month. Okay, still good, but by then TW, has increased to 10/1 for $44.99/month

I then get a note that "as a valued customer" I'm going to get a price increase to $54.99/month.

I was like, um,okay. So I called, asked about price matching (Time Warner had a special deal for $29.99/month for 10/1) and they said no, Verizon does not price match.

Call back later to cancel (after I ordered Road Runner), and THEN all of a sudden, they have a deal.

Now, I get my Verizon bill and it's not the price I was quoted over the phone. I only have to call 5 times to 5 diff. people who don't know anything (fortunately the original rep put notes on the account so the price is documented).

I call back 2 more times to finally get a temporary credit, but then they annhilated my auto-pay with credit card. I login online to pay, but get sent in a circular motion because verizon.com (phone service) bill pay tells me I need to pay at verizon.net (FIOS Internet), and then the verizon.net site redirects me BACK to verizon.com because I have a "combined" bill. At which point verizon.com redirects me BACK to verizon.net because I have internet.

So I can't pay the bill, unless I want to pay over the phone and get zapped a $3.99 fee.

Sigh.

That's rare for any company. Normally nothing is put in the system so
that when you call back in later, there's no record of any special deals
and you get to fight it all over again.. This applies to most companies,
not just internet..

Depends on which "verizon" is being discussed. Verizon wireless which is
partly owned by Verizon is operated much differently than Verizon.

Last time I called was for replacement phones and a plan change. They
gave me a good offer but I told them I needed to get back to them. I
called maybe a week later and everything the previous rep had told me
was noted on the account.

Yup, VZW is good about that. Actually this type of service goes all the
way back to the Ameritech Cellular days. Even back then they would note
special offers in your account so you could call them back or even go to
an Ameritech store and get what you had been offered. Thank goodness
this is one thing that hasn't changed over the years.

Yes it is actually, but I had Alltel prior to the merger and they were
really good in my area too. Since Verizon bought them out insurance to
replace a phone went up $40, but the monthly price only went down a
dollar. To get a similar plan to what we have now will jump my bill up
another $20 to $40 dollars a month. I can upgrade my phone now with
another 2-year contract, but the second phone I have to wait the full
two years. Alltel allowed both phones to be upgraded after 18 months.

So I've not gained anything from Verizon buying Alltel. Sadly my
choices in my town are Verizon, US Cellular, or AT&T. Verizon has the
best network, but is the highest priced. US Cellular has better
pricing, but the data service mostly stinks. AT&T has the best pricing,
but the service in my area is horrible.

As opinions go, Verizon, in my opinion, sucks. Not that my other
choices are any better. I really wish Verizon hadn't bought out Alltel.

I don't think that's a Verizon issue. They use a third-party to handle
insurance claims, and I would suspect Alltel did as well. Presumably the
insurance company sets the deductible rate, which is $50 with Assurion
(who Verizon uses).

That's how it's been for a long time. I guess what you pay for.

> As opinions go, Verizon, in my opinion, sucks.

You really haven't said anything about how they suck other than they're
expensive. That doesn't mean they suck. That means they're expensive.
If Verizon really sucked they'd have bad customer service, poor
reception, etc.

Re: Verizon Sucks

I had alltel prior to the buy out. I noted above why I think Verizon
sucks. Needless to say the only thing I've noticed about the switch to
Verizon is I'm out more money for the same exact service.

They want $90 now to replace my brother blackberry pearl. This would be
the fourth time for the exact same problem. Phone won't receive calls
and freezes a lot. I've had two friends with pearls who had the same
problem and they eventually bought curves.

Well, I'm getting the same for more money.

It does in my opinion.
