What I'd like to give my daughter...

....before she goes away to college: a USMC T-shirt. Anyone who saw her
wearing it would make the logical assumption that her father, sibling or
boyfriend is a Marine, and would wisely leave her alone.

Personally I would give her the definitive picture book on STD's, a
bible, and a album full of meth addict pictures. You can't make her
where the shirt and since I know way to many marines who can't fight to
save their lives I'm not sure it would work so well in a world full of
UFC wannabe's.

Also remind her that you will be making surprise visits.

Maybe not the bible.....too many sex and murder stories in there.

Re: What I'd like to give my daughter...

I just threw that one in just in case. Truthfully if I had a daughter I
would start from day one explaining how evil sex, drugs, and rock 'n
roll are. 😛

Naw. I would explain things as they are and the risk she would be
taking. I would explain how to think beyond her own relationship and to
realize that just because you are married or in a relationship doesn't
mean the other isn't doing things with other people. Then I would step
back and allow her to make her own mistakes (of course I would be close
by with a shotgun and shovel for the guys I didn't approve of).

A Bible? Since I've always taught my daughter to be fair-minded, I'd
have to give her a copy of *every* sacred book: the Koran, the Book of
Mormon, the Rig Veda, the Upanishads, Dianetics, etc etc... I can't
afford that. 🙂

Obviously you're laboring under the misapprehension that I don't trust
my daughter.

I'm guessing she doesn't want to be left alone by this point.

Now, now, I didn't say I want her to be treated like a leper. I just
want unsavory types to think twice before giving her *unwanted* attention.

Re: What I'd like to give my daughter...

Better yet, a BDU T-shirt with a real but cryptic unit designation and
your last name stenciled on it, e.g., "A Co./I MEF Recon" and "GnySgt BLACK"

I have one that just says: "OD-B2 12SFG(A)" and my 4-digit laundry
ticket number. It gets all kinds of weird looks from people who've never
served in the Army.

This is why people are so screwed in the head about sex. Unfortunately if I
were to engage discourse on it it would invariably be binned, so I'll leave
it alone.

I actually agree with you (I think). I was just being funny. 😄
