What would you prefer - HP or DELL?

I have quotes for HP Z400 WS and Dell Precision T3500 with comparable
specs and prices including on-site maintenance. What would you prefer?

I would choose HP, but mainly because their support has been better
here, locally.

Another vote for HP.

Dell.

Dell support here is great. No muss, no fuss. HP's support is the exact
opposite, sadly.

I have a profound dislike for HP Dekstops and Laptops.
I like Dell Laptops, but I'm indifferent about their desktops; They're OK.
Personally, I buy whitebox machines cause I get better warranties.
Both make good servers. I use Dell, but have heard great things about HP
servers and switches.

Re: What would you prefer - HP or DELL?

I have a Z400 ws and it works great.

Now as for personal experience. I've owned both dell and hp servers and
not really had any problem with either. Support wise I've had terrible
luck with dell.

As for HP.

I received an HP laptop with a broken screen. It actually had a
physical crack in the glass. Took me two days to get them to realize
that and get it returned. That's been a couple of years ago. They did
overnight a new laptop though once they figured out I wasn't lying.

On the other hand I had a three year old laptop (covered by extended
warranty with accidental) that got hit by lighting. I got online with
their support and in about ten minutes they gave me an rma. Got a box
to ship it back a day later, sent it back on a monday, got it back on a
wednesday. I was impressed.

I personally buy only HP. However, I only buy the business line of PC.
I've got a few people who bought the home version and they work fine
too, but I stick with business class because I've heard the home stuff
has horrible support.

Re: What would you prefer - HP or DELL?

We have both customers using HP & Dell. Talking servers both are good imo, HP has a slightly leaner design and easier 19" rack click and fit system.

I do prefer Dell desktops & laptops as I find they offer more value for money and often offer newer technology earlier on (this is what I've been seeing).

Both HP and Dell have always offered good support, looking at the last 5 years it's always been a question of giving support a call, giving them the needed info and receiving the service or parts needed well within the time specified in the contract.

Both are good imo. The one that bit me in the butt one to many times (unstable raid hardware) is IBM. But that is another topic.

HP

Good experience with their business-class stuff. Not so good with their
desktops (and laptops) for home use.

Re: What would you prefer - HP or DELL?

Thank you all for your thoughts and comments. So the vote is 7 HP
versus 2+(1) Dell. I was tending to HP before I started this thread, so
probably HP will win.

Nice to hear from someone, who is actually using the product, that it
is working great in reality and not only in theory.

That (business line) I do, too - even for my children I bought business
class machines, with an extra video card, as their usage is probably
harder as the usage of an average business user.

The only real problem I had with it was it came with a video card that
had Display Ports and the two converters were for dvi. I needed a vga
port. So I had to buy one of those. Took care of that problem and
everything else has worked good.

After reading other people's comments, I should clarify this. I don't like
their Home/Retail line of machine; Their business class stuff I've never had
a problem with. Pavilion/Presarios stink.
