"We're going to help manage your expectations"

Why is it I bristle every time I hear a project manager use this saying?
I'm not a 4-year-old who thinks they're going to get candy just because we're going to the store!
If the project documents were created all of the information, then my expectations should already match what they're planning to do.

Translation: It means, they are going to give you something, and it may not
be what you asked for, but they will help you understand why you should pay
for it anyway regardless of whether it cripples your business process and
is completely unmaintainable. HTH.
