Upgraded from PAM 3.2->3.5->3.6 and now new SSH relay rules do not work

Jump to solution

We upgraded from PAM 3.2-3.5-3.6. Now, when I create a new SSH-Relay rule, an ssh to the host returns:

ssh: Could not resolve hostname /opt/netiq/npum/service/local/sshrelay/etc/public_ident: Temporary failure in name resolution

Has anyone experienced this?

I suspect this is unrelated to the upgrade. The error is related to dns. So please verify the run host configured in the cmdctrl rule matches a resource name contained within the crdvlt. PAM will authorize according to the cmdctrl rule and attempts to match the configured 'run host' of the rule with a crdvlt resource to determine connection details. And then verify that the dns address configured for that resource can be properly resolved by the sshrelay server.

Oddly, some servers worked fine while others did not. But, I think it was related to calls to the REST API to test the script I wrote to add servers to the Vault and Command Control rule.

We reverted to 3.2 and redid the upgrade and everything worked.
