Avoid Scheduled Effort to be automatically calculated in Work Items

Jump to solution

Hi,

we have defined a Work Item request type in PPM 9.32. We have noticed that Sched Effort field is calculated automatically when the user sets Scheduled Start Date and Scheduled Finish Date. That could be alright if it didn't change anytime the user changes one of those dates, but it's a little bit annoying for the users that PPM overwrites the Sched Effort they entered manually every time they re-schedule the work item.

Do any of you guys know how to disable this automatic calculation of Sched Effort in Work Items?

Thank you so much in advance!

Hi Raji,

I solved this issue with a new rule on field change that resets the Scheduled Effort value anytime Shceduled Start Date or Shceduled Finish Dates changes. This is the SQL code used:

SELECT '[REQ.P.KNTA_SCHED_EFFORT]', '[REQ.P.KNTA_SCHED_EFFORT]' FROM dual

It's very simple, but it works.

 Hello AntoniP,

About your question, this is by design as far as I know, because the PPM tool has been developed to recalculate the effort when you re-schedule the work item, so in summary, there is not an OOTB way to fit your requirements.

Maybe you can try to take a look on project settings > Cost and Effort and check on Manually enter Scheduled Effort per task assignment and Allow override of effort calculation mode in the work plan.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Jason

Hi,

We do not have such a functionality for requests. For projects, this is controlled by project Settings -> Cost and Effort settings where you can choose to manually enter Scheduled Effort.

For Requests which have Work Item field group enabled, the Scheduled Effort is calculated based on the Scheduled Duration. This seems to have been driven by a database package (KCRT_WORK_ITEM_RULES).

Having said this, I would like to know if you track resources on the Requests. You can find this by logging into workbench -> Demand Management -> Request Types. Open relevant request type and check Resources tab. Through this Track Resources functionality, you can track Scheduled Effort, Actual Effort etc. Once you enable track resources, you enter resource information on the Resources section including Scheduled Effort. When you change the scheduled duration by changing dates, PPM does recalculates and shows the new Scheduled Effort, however, when the request is saved, the Scheduled Effort from the Resources section is always copied back into Work Item Field group Scheduled Effort.

This is just a workaround. Please test this functionality thoroughly.Hope this workaround works for you.

Otherwise, there is no way to disable automatic calculation of Sched Effort in work item field group.

Thanks
