Forcing feild to match a name from the contacts table

I'm sorry guys, I know I know this but I'm drawing a blank.

I have a feild for resources. If I type in a name and click look up it shows you the contacts list (this is working properly). Now what I need to do is force users to select an actual contact name and not just type in "Bob". The current validation won't let them leave it blank, but it doesn't force them to choose a valid contact.

Can someone help me fix this please.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Re: Forcing feild to match a name from the contacts table

Sounds strange, you are using a validation like crt - contact name - all and it still allows free text? As soon as the field loses its focus (clicking elsewhere, tab key...) the input value should be validated automatically.
If you just enter "Bob" do you see then an error indicator in the status bar of IE?

Re: Forcing feild to match a name from the contacts table

Maybe a better way to describe my trouble:
I have a comfill box called resource1 the user can type anything in this feild and look up from our contacts list.

My issue is, they aren't clicking the fill button and just typing "Bob", my validation only checks for not null so it lets them continue.

How do I get it to check if this is a valid contact name and still let the start typing a name?
