How is Region set to "Required"?

Jump to solution

This ought to be simple. Normally, to make a field 'required' we goto Status Dependencies and select the "Required Yes/No" radio button for each necessary request status on the left.

Well, in my PFM - Asset request type, Region is required in the user interface, as indicated by a red asterisk. But when I go into the Workbench, in the request type, under Status Dependencies, it is NOT required.

I must be missing something. Why is it required, and how would I "un-require" it, if needed?

Re: How is Region set to "Required"?

Hi Greg,

The field is set to required for the reasons that Eric has already stated.

This is a UI-rule for ON_CREATION as well as, since a recent defect, for ON_PAGE_LOAD.

The project region determines the currency etc that the project is using and is needed. The rule is set in a background sql and shouldn’t be changed.

I see that you opened a case about it. Let’s see what RnD comes back with.

Best regards,

Dirk

Is it being set to Required with a rule?

Thanks for asking.  PFM - Asset comes standard, and we have not modified it. I did look at the rules for the request type, and nothing was obviously setting the required flag. There are only four rules:

Set Workflow, Calculate Value, Clac. Risk, Calc. Total Score.

Re: How is Region set to "Required"?

Hi,

this is indeed quite strange. The behaviour of the Region field applies to my instance as well.

On top of that, the Discount Rate is not editable and it has a red star - this should never happen.

I think this should be raised to HP.

cheers

Thanks, buddy!  I feel a little more comfortable knowing others are seeing the same thing. I have opened a service request with HP to help get to the bottom of this. Will post the answer.

Because Assets have financial summaries, Region is probably required so the financials can have the correct currency & other regional settings. You can always just default a value.

Re: How is Region set to "Required"?

Hi Alex,

there's two ERs out there to be able to modify the FinSum page which is in fact set in the financial summary jsp (no hints from my side).

Besides the point that those ERs don#t explicitly want to make them unrequired (the customers wanted to hide them), here they are:

QCCR1L28069 and

QCCR1L39487

Both ERs are currently deferred.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Dirk

Hi, Dirk,

the 2 ERs you mentioned (thanks !) actually refer to modifying the Financial Summary page, whereas the problems described in the current post refer to the actual request.

I think Greg should raise a support case on the matter.

Re: How is Region set to "Required"? Official Answer

Jump to solution

Here's the official HP answer:

"After involving my team, the conclusion is that it comes that way by design.
The reason would be the working day in the calendar.
"Please test the following,
"-make a copy of that Request Type (definitely not recommended to change any seeded objects) and then the "required" fields are set in the Status Dependency tab of the Request Type so would just set it to "no" where if it is set to "yes" on that tab for that field."

I'm pretty good about digging down into these request types, but if it's down in the xml or somewhere lower than Status Dependencies, I will accept that it is just that way.

I'm not happy with HP's answer, because it sounds like they are 'winging it' too.

I've got to focus on other stuff, so I am prepared to accept this answer and move on.

Thanks, everyone!
