How long to set up mobile integration?

Jump to solution

Dear forum,

What is a reasonable estimate to set up the out-of-the-box mobile integration to a basic level to allow us to test a little internally.

Nothing fancy at this point.

Thanks,

/Chris

Hi Chris,

PPM Mobile Web Client is just a web page that you'll open with your mobile browser. We actually don't care at all abour your mobile OS, but we listed the OS that were used when we certified that solution years ago.

Basically, if you use any modern mobile browser (Safari/Chrome/Firefox)  on you mobile device you should be good to go. I do confess that we haven't recertified that with modern architecture in a long time, so the certified devices listed in the support matrix are quite dated. But don't let that scare you nor generate overly large estimates!

Cheers,

Etienne.

Hi Chris,

It litterally takes 2 minutes and a PPM restart.

Copy/paste from PPM online help: ( https://admhelp.microfocus.com/ppm/en/9.50/Help/Content/UG/MobileWebClientUG/Ch1_InstallingMobilityWebsiteClient.htm )  :

  1. Open the server.conf file in the <PPM_Home> directory.
  2. Add the following line:

    com.kintana.core.server.ENABLE_MOBILITY_APPS = true

Note: You can also enable this parameter in the Administration Console. By default, it is disabled.

  3. Stop PPM Server.
  4. Run sh ./kUpdateHtml.sh in the <PPM_Home>/bin directory.
  5. Start the PPM Server.

And that's it. Try accessing the PPM Url with your cell phone's browser. You need to be on the intranet Wifi or use some VPN, or if you're lucky your PPM instance is Internet-facing or you're on PPM SaaS and you can access it right away from any Internet connection.

More info in the help link above.

FYI, when you have some question that you suspect might be in the doc but that you don't know where to start to look, open google and type "PPM Online Help", then click on the first link, and then type your question (here, I typed "installation Mobile Web Client" and this was the first answer).

Cheers,

Etienne.

Thanks, Etienne!

Our techies have made a much higher estimate, which felt wrong. One of the hurdles they point out is the fact that, according to the documentation, the integration only supports archaic versions of mobile OS:

  • iOS 7 (on iPhone 5/5S), or iOS 8 (on iPhone 6/6 plus)
  • Android 4.2 (on Samsung Galaxy S4), or Android 4.4 (on Samsung Galaxy S5)

You may want to look that over...  Or maybe they are just plain wrong again...

Cheers,

/Chris
