How to create Logs with 5 buffer logs, each 5 MB size

Jump to solution

Hi,

Currently I have logs which rewrites after 250 Kb is attained with no backup logs

I would like to increase the logs size and also number of backup logs to 5.

Is it advisable to have the each size of the logs to 5 Mb will this affect the performance of the application.

plz confirm the below parameter to be added to logging.conf files.

ROTATE_LOG_SIZE = 5 MB

MAX_BACKUP_INDEX = 5

Please let me know if any points are missed to be added to implement the above.

Thanks Cecil,

I just deployed the hotfix from HP, and the log archiving is running fine in DEV env.

Thanks for your help

Hi,

Could you please try ROTATE_LOG_SIZE parameter in server.conf too. Do not delete other one in logging.conf.

You may know you should close ppm, ./kUpdateHTML.sh , ./kJSPCompiler.sh than open ppm.

hi Celil

thanks for your reply

in the server.conf, the rotate_log_size is commented and I have increase the log size in the logging.conf and it got reflected properly

but the max_backup_index , when used, does not create any more backup logs.

 still to have the logs created ?

thanks

Hi,

there was an issue with 8.03 rolling, meaning that no backup files were created and instead, the active one is overwritten immediately. This happened when the windows service was used to start PPM and not kStart. Now, a 5k serverlog won't help you much, I advise to set to 250k. In addition to that, I would test a start with kStart.sh instead of the windows service just to test that behaviour. I just checked and it seems that the defect I reported in 8.0x (and solved in 8.03) seems to be present also for 9.1x and is planned to be solved in 9.12

Check QCCR1L28261 on SSO.
Thus, if you start PPM via kStart.sh, the problem should not occur and backup-files should be created.

Hi

if I start PPM by kStart and when we try to exit from the command prompt the HP PPM server goes down.

The account by which we are doing this activity is also PPM administrator.

Thanks
