PPM Support Tip: Cookie based persistent in Load Balancer when using PPM

Why should we use Cookie based persistent for PPM and not Source address ip?

It’s not safe to use source IP to authenticate the user's session info for PPM

     1) If multi-user work on same PC, PPM cannot recognize them, the later logon session will overwrite the previous one.

     2) As the load balancer dispatch the user's request, so PPM receive all request from load balancer but not client directly. It will confuse if using source IP Authentication.

     3) Some end users using internal network and sharing same public IP address, it's same to point 2.

Proposed change to load balancer configuration:

-Change for load balancer

  • Default Persistence Profile:    set this to Cookie based

NOTE: It is not required to re-start the PPM application.

This recommendation applies for all PPM version, even thought it was included in the official documents until “PPM Installation and Administration guide for version 9.30”, page 180.
