PPM Support Tip: What is the difference between kDevMigratorImport.sh and kMigratorImport.sh?

Knowledge Base Article: KM00794587

Both the scripts kDevMigratorExtract.sh and kDevMigratorImport.sh are provided as standard OOTB PPM scripts and they are also documented in "Installation and Administration Guide" - for example in the Third Edition from March 2012, on pages 508, 509. However, can it be clarified which are differences between kDevMigratorImport.sh and kMigratorImport.sh?

According to R&D, kDevMigratorExtract.sh/ kDevMigratorImport.sh, comparing to kMigratorExtract.sh/ kMigratorImport.sh, provides a practically similar functionality, but the former tool demands DB password while the latter does not. In a complete security system, PPM admin, who runs the migration, should not have the direct access to PPM database. So actually this command is for a Dev environment where a developer can have all access to any layer.

Best regards,
Randall
