Problem opening workbench

Jump to solution

Hi Everyone,

I just create a new virtual environment with PPM 9.22 and Java 7 with the latest update. The installation didn't have any problem, even the Web Page is enabled but every time I tried to download the workbench to use it I get the following error:

java.lang.NullPointerException
at com.kintana.core.gui.LogonApplet.loadInstalledLanguages(LogonApplet.java:273)
at com.kintana.core.gui.LogonApplet.init(LogonApplet.java:337)

at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.doLaunchApp(Unknown Source)
at com.sun.javaws.Launcher.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

PPM was installed in English, Spanish and portuguese.

Anyone knows what could be happening? Also If I tried to download the workbench in another machine with an older version of jdk don't allow me to run the workbench due permission of the jar.

Regards

Alfredo

Re: Problem opening workbench

Hello Alfredo,

Starting with Java 7 Update 51, Java has enhanced their security model to make user systems less vulnerable to external exploits. The new version of Java does not allow users to run the applications that are not signed (Unsigned), Self signed (not signed by trusted authority) and the applications that are missing permission attributes.

The details about the issue and a workaround is in the below link

http://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xml

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Subash

Are you using SSO authentication to login in PPM.

Also the issue occurs when you have multiple JRE installed on you client machine.

Cheers..

Does the workbench run on the PPM App Server VM ?

From a workstation I believe you need the App Server RMI port open.

Check all firewall configs from workstation to App server.

On the PPM App Server start the Java 7 control panel and set to unhide.

Now try to start the workbench.

The first thing you should see is the URL used to launch the workbench (should be your RMI port).

Make sure it looks correct.

I am on 9.12.

Try to set the premissions on knta_client.jar to everyone or all users.

Start the workbench again with the java control panel visible.

See if you get farther.

It looks more like a permissions problem in the /itg/client directory.
