SUSE 11 SP2 - PlateSpin

SUSE Linux 11 SP2 was released on 2012-02-15, and 11 SP1 has reached EOL
Aug 2012.
PlateSpin does not support 11 SP2, but the SP1 only(the EOL product).

Pretty Strange .. if I want take support/patches/updates from
Attachmate, then I have to upgrade to 11 SP2, while my DR Product does
not supports the 11 SP2, and I have to
keep the boxes on SP1(EOL).

Re: SUSE 11 SP2 - PlateSpin

This is not an issue with just SUSE 11 SP2. Currently, the 3.0 kernel
is not supported at all (no matter what OS is using it). The
development team is working on getting this working, but with the
changes made in 3.0 over 2.6, there is a significant amount of effort
required.

Re: SUSE 11 SP2 - PlateSpin

I work for a Novell/NetIQ partner, we have customers running SLES 11 and
PSpin for DR. We are in deep **** because either we can protect the
customers' production SLES servers(via keeping them on SP1) OR upgrade
the boxes to SP2 to get support/updates from Vendor/Prinicpal.

Also we have customers running SLES 11 SP2, and we can't propose PSpin
for DR.

Facts:
SLES 11 SP2 was released in Feb 2012(not a new product .. nearly an year
old now).
SLES 11 SP1 reached EOL(no support/updates) in Aug 2012.
as of now(2013-Feb-09) PSin supports SLES 11 SP 1.
Both the PSpin and SUSE are Attachmate's Product.

At least SUSE should not discontinue the support of SP1 till PSpin start
supporting SP2.

Re: SUSE 11 SP2 - PlateSpin

I just came across this today and it is insanity. I can't even compile
the right driver to get this working so now I have workloads that can't
be protected and the best answer from support is "Maybe later this year
it will work".

I'm not even sure how I'm going to bring this up to
management.............
