ALM client login issue-Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type '

Hi ,

 

Few users started complaing that as they try to login ALM after giving user id and password they are getting the below issue.

System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Uc.UCOfficeIntegration'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID '{6A222195-F65E-467F-8F77-EB180BD85288}' failed due to the following error: Interface not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040155).

Can some one help.to me this issue seems like a MS office issue.

Please, when you throw this kind of question over the wall at least provide some basic information such as the environment you're running in. It will get you an answer sooner - or at least we can find some commonality among the responses.

For example, ALM version version and patch, operating system version, version of Office, whether you have Skype installed, etc.

Sorry.to add the above issue

details are ALM 12.55 patch 2 installed on linux.

users who repored this issue are having office 365 in their machines.

This will happen after another application is uninstalled and removes a component used by the ALM installation. So when Office 365 was uninstalled, a couple of older applications were probably removed.

I'd bet this is because of change in Skype objects.

Skype integration is probably built on the old lync SDK and COM objects.

Try disabling skype integration in site config parameters or explicitly install lync / skype for business.

Hi,

This is known issue I reported in April last year to the vendor support.

It seems error appears for existing ALM users after MS Office 365 update.

In all my cases (30+, Office build 1609, 1701), MS Office quick repair fixed the problem permanently for affected users - https://support.office.com/en-us/article/repair-an-office-application-7821d4b6-7c1d-4205-aa0e-a6b40c5bb88b

Another workaround (not permanent) - kill Skype for Business process, start ALM, login and next start Skype over again.
