Formatting Issue in Description Field of Defect / TestCase

Jump to solution

Hi,

Whenever a new Defect/TestCase (TC) is created, the description fields loads with predefined text whose formatting looks inconsistent. Please find the attached for more info, which shows the pattern after typing some data within the pre-populated sections.

As you see that, It loads with Objection, where font is small whereas under the section Pre-Conditions, the font size is big.

FYI, we upgraded from 9.2 to QC 11.0 recently. The configuration are below.

Server OS - Window 2008 SP2

Client OS - Window XP SP3

Database  - Oracle 11.2.0.2 (with latest Patch) on Linux.

Also, if we type on blank description of any existing TestCase/Defect the same inconsistent formatting happens.

Please share your experience on how to apply template/formatting so that changes are made across all projects quickly.

Thanks,

Praveen

Re: Formatting Issue in Description Field of Defect / TestCase

Hi,

Happy to share you that the inconsistent formatting issue have been fixed.

Following is the workflow code we previously used for TestNew event under TestPlan.

if Test_Fields("TS_DESCRIPTION").Value = "" then

            Test_Fields("TS_DESCRIPTION").Value = _

        "<html><head><title>Untitled Document</title><meta http-equiv=""Content-Type"" content=""text/html; charset=iso-8859-1""></head>" &_

        "<body bgcolor=""#FFFFFF"">" &_

        "<p><font size=""4"" color=""#0000A0""><u><b>Objective</b></u></font></p>" &_

        "<p>&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><font size=""4"" color=""#0000A0""><u><b>Pre-Conditions</b></u></font></p>" &_

        "<p><font size=""4"">1. </font></p>" &_

        "<p><font size=""4"">2. </font></p>" &_

        "<p><font size=""4"">3. </font></p>" &_

        "<p>&nbsp;</p><p><font size=""4"" color=""#0000A0""><u><b>Post-Conditions</b></u></font></p>" &_

        "<p><font size=""4"">1. </font></p>" &_

        "<p><font size=""4"">2. </font></p>" &_

        "<p><font size=""4"">3. </font></p>" &_

        "<p>&nbsp;</p></body></html>"

     end if

Seems there would be some parsing issue, as even though we mentioned font size 4 for all lines, certain lines go till size 6 when displayed.

Following is the fix we got from HP, now the formatting issue resolved.

If Test_Fields.Field("TS_DESCRIPTION").Value = "" then

        Test_Fields.Field("TS_DESCRIPTION").Value = "<html>" &_

        "<body>" &_

        "<p style=""margin-left:0mm; margin-right:0mm; text-indent:0mm; margin-top:2.38mm; margin-bottom:4.76mm; ""><font " &_

        "face=""Arial"" color=""#0000a0"" size=""4""><span style=""font-size:12pt""><b><u>Objective</u></b></span></font></p>" &_
