HP ALM SaaS - “Cannot change password when external authentication is used"
Using HP ALM SaaS the User logs in and navigates to change their password through - Tools > Customize > User Properties > Change Password.
The following error message is returned.
“Cannot change password when external authentication is used". (see attachment)
Within Site Admin > User Management; you can see that field “Authentication Policy” is set to “Default.

Discovered the following after discussion with HP.
On the SaaS version, Tools-Customise-User Properties is not used to change passwords due to some security vulnerabilities with this method. It’s ok when the product is installed locally, but the function has been blocked on the SaaS edition.
There are 2 places to change the password:
- On the login page of the ALM Desktop Client (click the link under the login box)
- On the admin page, click the link below the login box
