Not able to export requirements from Excel if using CAC authentication

We are upgrading from HP ALM/QC 11.52 to 12.53 to take advantage of the CAC authentication, a requirement for my client. We use the “Export to HP ALM add-in to upload requirements, test cases and defects into our 11.52 QC solution. I installed the latest add-in, however, upon much testing, have learned that it is not compatible with CAC authentication and that it will only work with usernames/password authentications (this has been confirmed with HP). This is not an option for my client and QC is designed such that users can only be authenticated either via CAC or username/password. Not both.

I’m hoping that someone out there has dealt with this issue and has determined a work around to get data into QC in 12.x who is also using CAC authentication. We are using Microsoft Office 10; we use manual testing and do not use Unified Functional Testing (UFT).

Re: Not able to export requirements from Excel if using CAC authentication

Hi ,

I think there is not an alternative for that. I am afraid the Excel addin is not supported to work with CAC like you noted,  below is the information related to the CAC limitations.

The following ALM components and features are not supported with Smart Card external authentication: l ALI l

Analysisitemssharing l Enterprise Collaboration for HP ALM l HP ALM Explorer l HP ALM Lab Service l HP ALM Synchronizer l HP Enterprise Integration Module for SAP Solution Manager l HP Service Test Management l Lab Server-Side Execution l MicroSoft Excel add-in l Performance Center host over cloud l QC Sense l Service Virtualization l Sprinter l TaskTop l Web Client l Workflow - you cannot connect as another user via workflow
