Upgrade QC v11.52 to v12.60

Jump to solution

Hello!

We are currently running QC v11.52 and there is no customized field / customization applied. We would like to upgrade to QC/ALM v12.60. Does upgrading to QC v12.60 takes the same effort as to ALM v12.60?

We are going to upgrade using a new database server and new ALM server and follow through the ALM v12.60 Installation Guide p.21 Upgrade ALM with Copied Schema (https://admhelp.microfocus.com/alm/en/12.60/pdfs/Install_Windows.pdf). Except for following the installation steps described in this page, any other things have to be done and aware of?

If we follow the installation guide to upgrade ALM with copied schema, is everything kept the same after upgrade? More specifically, can the LDAP user setting be kept the same after upgrade so that user and their corresponding user groups will be kept the same?

Couple of things

  • for a straightforward implementation, upgrading QC is the about the same effort as upgrading ALM.  If however, you are using ALM lab management modules, or ALM templates (which aren't available in QC) there is more work involved. But from an installation and planning process, it is very similar.
  • you won't be able to jump directly from 11.52 to 12.60. You'll have to go to either 12.53 or 12.55, and then to 12.60
  • information in the qcsiteadmin_db management database is preserved, so your users and LDAP settings are carried over

Thank you very much.

May I know what is the additional work involved in order to enjoy the full functionality (ALM lab management modules and ALM templates)?

There's no additional work involved per se, just need to purchase/upgrade your licenses from QC to ALM.

After that, you simply download and apply the new license key into Site Administration and the ALM capabilities are enabled.

Aside from the lab management and template features, there are additional capabilities such as cross-project asset sharing, cross-project reporting and project planning and tracking modules that you get as part of ALM.

If you're interested to know more or have a demo, please msg me directly and I'd be happy to set up a demonstration and comparison for you.
