<QC/ALM Support Tip>How to rename a user in HP ALM?

Hello customers,

Sometimes, in some organizations, the username of a user must be set according to a nomenclature defined by the business organization and renaming a user or several users that were part of legacy or created with wrong usernames must be done.

Unfortunately, there is not any feature allowing to rename a user in ALM and generally, instead of renaming, a new user needs to be created with the correct username and after this, details (email, domain authentication, ...) of the old user must be copied to the new user, the customization of each project that used to be accessed by the old user needs to be accessed and set to allow access to the new user with the same groups permissions. This set of manual operations can be exhausting, especially if there are many users to rename and those users has access to many projects.

There is an application (source code is also available) with open source allows to perform those operation.

It can be downloaded from the following article:

Important: The application itself is not supported (it is not an optimized application and it can be imporved in many aspects) however the objects and methods of the SA API that are used to implement the different functionalities of the application are supported.

Best regards,
Anton Labachev
