We’re pleased to announce the general availability of Micro Focus StormRunner Functional (SRF) 3.0!
This version of SRF introduces web testing improvements, higher flexibility for mobile testing, and enhanced integrations with Micro Focus tools, providing you with a smoother and hassle-free testing experience.
This blog post provides a short overview of the main enhancements included in this release.
What’s new in SRF 3.0?
SRF 3.0 introduces the following new features and enhancements:
Execution time is critical. Getting quick feedback about application regressions is crucial in Agile and DevOps development processes. That’s why in this version we’ve focused on improving test execution performance, allowing you to run your web tests in the cloud, substantially faster than before.
Accessing SRF in Internet Explorer (IE)
Many enterprise organizations are still standardized around Internet Explorer for web browsing. To support these customers, we’ve added support in IE, which can now be used to access and work with SRF.
Exploratory Testing on IE
SRF’s exploratory testing solution allows you to manually test your web and mobile applications on cloud-hosted browsers and mobile devices. As requested by customers, it is now possible to perform exploratory sessions in SRF on all of the common web browsers, including Internet Explorer.
Workspace Device Segregation
SRF workspaces enable enterprise customers to scale up their functional testing, by separating data and resources for various groups or projects as needed across a tenant.
In this release, we’ve added the ability to better manage the utilization of mobile devices, by dividing them between workspaces of a tenant, thereby enabling usage of devices only within the context of the workspace to which they were allocated. To allow more flexibility, devices can also be defined as “shared” and accessed from any of the tenant’s workspaces, as opposed to being accessed only from a specific workspace.
Mobile Device Ad-Hoc Player
Sometimes before performing a test on a mobile device, you may need to configure some settings or install software on the device. Or, you might like to perform a “quick” test on an app, and don’t need that test to be logged. For these cases, we’ve added the ability to instantly open a view of the mobile devices associated with your SRF tenant (whether these devices are local, or cloud-hosted). Just hover over the device in SRF’s Mobile Lab and click the “play” button. A remote device view will be opened in seconds, allowing you to easily do anything needed on that device.
UFT-SRF Parameters Mapping
Running UFT tests in SRF? You can now provide the values of uploaded UFT test parameters before running your tests, directly in SRF. This way you can easily reuse uploaded UFT tests with different sets of data.
ALM New Version Support
SRF integrates with Micro Focus ALM, allowing you to submit rich defects directly from SRF to ALM (This functionality is also supported for other defect tracking systems). The submitted defects automatically include useful information about your test, such as its steps, snapshots and link to a video file, allowing you to accelerate the reproduction and resolution of defects. In this release, we’ve extended SRF’s integration with ALM to support the latest versions of ALM (ALM 12.60 On-Prem and SaaS, ALM 14 and 14.01 SaaS).
Optimized SRF Mobile Testing Packages
More and more companies are delivering value to their customers (internal or external) through mobile apps. Proper testing of these apps before delivery is crucial, as users have zero tolerance for mobile app defects. However, procuring, configuring, and maintaining the mobile devices needed for testing is time consuming and a big hassle. This is why SRF provides you with the option of using physical mobile devices, hosted privately by SRF in the cloud, saving you the need to have these devices locally.
Starting with this new version, SRF provides more flexibility for mobile testing, by introducing the following 2 improvements:
- SRF “Mobile Only” package – a new offering, created specifically for mobile testing use cases
- The ability to procure and connect an unlimited number of hosted mobile devices per tenant (removing the limit of up to 4 devices per tenant)
