runtime customizable banner messages

runtime customizable banner messages

Ability to Configure SBM banners at runtime through Auxiliary table and appear as marque in header or footer over the specified duration

SBM 11 banners, Ability to schedule banner messages to appear over a specific period like a marqueue in the top/bottom banner of SBM to notify users of significant notifications once they login - outage, maintenance and code freeze times, etc.
It adds value to make it configurable through an aux table like start time, end time, rich text message, one time notification or repeated, etc. so that banner gets updated automatically based on configuration.

The header/footer feature was added in SBM 11.0, but is only available in Work Center. You can read about it (and see a screen print) in the knowledge base here.

How do others handle runtime messages to all users in Work Center?

It is actions such as IIS reset that we would like to send out to users ahead of time therefor the suggested Header/footer banner isn't the best solution I guess...

Many people just sent out simple emails or chats outside of the tool. Emails can also be sent manually through SBM. You could even create a Maintenance workflow and trigger notifications through there. If you want to use another channel, you could investigate using a different plugin to transmit the message using something other than email.

I have often thought about doing something like what is described initially. I could envision using something like appscript or modscript in URL context to read messages from SBM and display them in the header/footer (again, possibly from a Maintenance workflow). The script could query records for active maintenance or other relevant alerts, return the data in html or json format, and then html or code in the header/footer could then format it (such as to have a scrollable banner, possibly with links back to the record.)
