How to easily get a report on a multi relational field linked to other primary table items

I want to build a list report based on a multi-relational field that is linked to items from another primary table.
The report should list all items of the multi-relational field.

I tried embedded report based on "composer report definition" and also embedded report based on "user work space reference link"

report template: reports/list
(embedded report includes: Named Project:"DB_APPLICATION_NAME.DB_PROJECT_NAME"
Query Parameter: {Multi-RelationalFieldName[IDs]} or {Multi-RelationalFieldName}

If the multi-relational field is empty, the report shows a list off all items
If I have one item in the multi-relational field, the report shows a single but different item
If I have more than one item in the multi relational field the report shows "Sorry, no data was found meeting conditions of this report."

Am I missing something or is this the wrong approach?
