PostgreSQL Migration for SMA-SM Upgrade from 2018.11 to 2019.08

Hi All,

We are planning to upgrade SMA-SM Portal from 2018.11 to 2019.08. As we know there is no direct path to upgrade, we followed the migration steps given on: https://docs.microfocus.com/itom/Service_Management_Automation_-_SM:2019.08/MigrateFromSMASM.

However, these steps do not mention anything about the PostgreSQL DB used by CDF and the Suite.

We would like to know what happens to the DB? How do we migrate the data from the Old PostgreSQL for 2018.11 to the that of 2019.08?

P.S:

We also referred to a relative post on this, but it does not have any answer to the query we have.

@siddharth_z

For portal migration, actually, we already remove Propel in 2019.02.

  1. So on the new suite, it is no necessary to migrate the old propel data to new suite DB.
  2. On new portal, we get the data from SM directly.
  3. And for IDM site, user just need configure the related LDAP settings in BO, all of the LDAP users will be synced to BO in a scheduled time. So the IDM DB also no need to migrate.

Hi @Ming-Feng , Thank you for the inputs. ✌️

So, once we migrate to 2019.XX from 2018.11 would users see the Requests they have submitted via the previous portal?

Good question @siddharth_z . We are considering this kind of upgrade and we'd like to know if the users will be able to see the submitted tickets and to search them.

@siddharth_z  Yes, they can because from 201902, all the traction data is stored in SM side. as long as your SM DB has such data, you will be able to see the submitted request (SM interaction record) they submitted previously.
