Update SMG fails

Hello,

I have build 721, according to the webinterface. A new build is available (743). When I try to do the update it says 'complete'. When I restart the modules and return to the Online Update page it still is on build 721 and shows there is an update 743 available. Even when rebooting the appliance after the update the version still shows 721.  How can I force the update?

Re: Update SMG fails

Build 762 is now available.  Please try rebooting SMG and then login and start the update and see if it completes.  I typically reboot after applying an SMG update just to make sure everything is running clean.

If it doesn't complete, check the Update History for any clues.

Re: Update SMG fails

I rebooted the system and ran the update again. It says the update is running. In the update history it says that it does a version update from 721 -> 721. Again and again. See attached image.

So I have no clue why the upgrade fails.

When I run the update command from the commandline I get this:

gwava@fs-gwava:/opt/gwava/assets/updater/PostUpdate$ sudo ./binmerge.sh /opt/gwava/
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/gwavaman up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/gwava up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/gwvsmtp up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/gwvimap up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/gwvrelay up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/qms up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/libaivse000.so.5 up to date

/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/libasapsdk.so up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/md5sum.txt up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/scripts/gwava7 up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/scripts/gwava7down up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/scripts/gwava7up up to date

/opt/gwava/services/spamsig/linux/ip/ctipd.init_d up to date
/opt/gwava/services/spamsig/linux/ip/libasapsdk.so up to date

So I have no clue.

Re: Update SMG fails

When I do the update after a reboot it says the update ran succesfully. History shows it updated from 721 -> 721.

Running the update from the commandline give this result:

gwava@fs-gwava:/opt/gwava/assets/updater/PostUpdate$ sudo ./binmerge.sh /opt/gwava/
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/gwavaman up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/gwava up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/gwvsmtp up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/gwvimap up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/gwvrelay up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/qms up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/libaivse000.so.5 up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/libjvse.so.5 up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/libasapsdk.so up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/x64/md5sum.txt up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/scripts/gwava7 up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/scripts/gwava7down up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/scripts/gwava7up up to date
/opt/gwava/assets/bin/linux/scripts/migration_enable up to date
/opt/gwava/services/spamsig/linux/ip/ctipd up to date

/opt/gwava/services/spamsig/linux/ip/ctipd.init_d up to date
/opt/gwava/services/spamsig/linux/ip/libasapsdk.so up to date

So I have no clue whatsoever.

Re: Update SMG fails

This is an odd one.  I did some checking and it was suggested that you reboot and then try running the Ubuntu updates (but do NOT update the version) and see if that enables the updates to run properly.  See https://support.microfocus.com/kb/doc.php?id=7023256

If that doesn't work, you may need to open an SR and have support take a look at it.

I don't know how critical these updates are, but it was mentioned in this thread https://community.microfocus.com/t5/SMG-User-Discussions/Update-Ubuntu/m-p/2685836#M131 that the new SMG appliance should be out soon.  This is the one built on MicroFocus's common appliance model which uses SLES instead of Ubuntu.  Maybe you can hold off and just migrate to the new appliance.  Something to consider.
