3.3 5015 ERROR_UNKNOWN (no available unknown-pw authenticationmethod)

Hello,

I have updated a test environment from 3.2.0.3 to 3.3 and after logging
in I get this error:

5015 ERROR_UNKNOWN (no available unknown-pw authentication method)

In the catalina.out I can see:

2015-08-21T09:32:22Z, ERROR, auth.LDAPAuthenticationRequest, {a9}
authID=5, unable to retrieve user password from ldap: error reading nmas
password: error -1697
2015-08-21T09:32:22Z, ERROR, servlet.OAuthConsumerServlet, {a9} error
during OAuth authentication attempt: 5015 ERROR_UNKNOWN (no available
unknown-pw authentication method)

In ndstrace:

ERROR: -1697 Failed get password for xxxxxx

The admin user that I'm logging in as doesn't have a UP policy assigned.
After I added a password policy to the user I can login without any
issues. Is UP now required even for admin accounts?

Thanks

This error condition is due to the OAuth authentication, the SSPR or
eDir privileges aren't related.

I experienced the same issue and I did the same thing you did. I created
a password policy explicitly for the admin accounts.

I can't give you an explanation unfortunately why this happens. Although
if you turn off the NMAS you can get away with no password policy.
