SSPR 4 Appliance update


Hi
I Tried to update the appliance to 4.0.0.1 by uploading the
sspr-4.0.0.1.zip, but it just gives me an error after a few seconds..
Since it is an appliance I guess manual update will destroy the setup..


I also tried to do an online update , but I need a Activation Key to do
so. But I cant find any appliance keysin Customer center that are
attached to the SSPR ... where can I find that Activation Key?

The appliance is upgraded via online method only. You do not need to download any patch files.

Your activation is key is available in the customer care portal, where you downloaded SSPR 4.0. If you do not have a key available please contact the customer care center.

Struggling with this too.
Client did had a non-greyed key next to SSPR 4.0 in Customer portal where we
downloaded the appliance OVA, but the popup says:
"No_Key_Required Self-service Password Reset Subscription License"
Hmmm. It clearly does, as you can't submit the registration until the
activation key is entered. Nor does SSPR appear anywhere in the list under
mirror credentials

Not only that but they are in any case on a local network that has no access
to the internet, and no reason to install an SMT server. Previously they
could just apply an SSPR update by swapping in the war file, so a move to
the appliance makes patching problematic for them if it can only be done
through the channel..

Hi,

my understanding of an "Appliance Update" is, that this is more than just swapping the applications war file. In addition to this all TOMCAT, JVM and OS related patches should come through the update of the appliance as well.

Can anybody give some feedback if I am right with my assumptions?

Is there anybody who can provide some feedback how well the appliance installation is working?

When you use the online update feature of the appliance, all components on the appliance are updated:

-Operating System
-Java/Servlet Container
-SSPR Application

The appliance is the easiest system to keep up to date. The appliance uses an SSPR-specific product update channel and patches are automatically pre-tested for compatibility with SSPR before they are released into the update channel.

I Think the problem is that we are not automatically entitled to the
update channel for SSPR Appliance. (or atleast none of my 10 customers)

This statement comes from SSPR PM:
"SLES is part of the SSPR appliance and you should be entitled for
automatic updates on the SLES if you have running support on the SSPR
appliance. See if you use the Standalone SSPR and install it on the SLES
then no, you are not entitled."

It is a bit confusing since Customer Center says something like "No keys
required for SSPR"

If you have the possibility to I would open up a sr to get this sorted out.
It seems a bit confusing. Not used the appliance myself yet but in general they are much preferred.

Yes I have started a SR on this, but it seems to be confusing even for
the internals at netiq..
Joakim , can you se if your customers that are entitled to SSPR have an
activationkey or have access to SSPR update channels in CC ?

It just states that no key is required, sspr subscription licence and that it's valid until 2017-11-30 witch is when the product support has to be renewed.
I wonder how it looks for a customer who bought the product. I guess most get it with idm or access manager.

If you have purchased SSPR or are entitled through it through another product, you should see a key in customer center. If you do not see a key, please send an email to the customer center (click the contact us link in the customer center). You should not need to open an SR.

It is now confirmed to be an issue with the registration key. The key
needs special treatment until engineering has fixed this in the back
end.

One more thing to mention with the registraton is that the sspr and os
repro's has to be enabled manully after registration.
