WARN: Unable to send email due to error : Missing Domain

I have deployed trial build 3.1 SSPR on my test lab. Configured it for
using with NetIQ eDirectory. I am able to setup challenge response
questions and doing the password change and using "forgotten Password"
options seems to be working correctly. I have setup my smtp server
address also to generate email whenever a change happens . But , it is
giving me the following message :
*_WARN:_Unable_to_send_email_due_to_error_:_Missing_Domain_*

Tried to resolve the problem by changing the IP Address with the
hostname and by making necessary additions to /etc/hosts file on linux
servers where my sspr and groupwise smtp server are running.

https://www.netiq.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7015938

Still unable to get email to users for whom password changes are made..

Any help will be highly appreciated.

I, too, get this error all the time, and I'm not sure exactly where the
fix is at, as one would think that the SSPR application would be able to
read the SLES config (in my case) and realize what domain/DNS it's
configured for.

The docs (IMHO) aren't really clear about this error, let alone where to
input the domain portion.

For example, you'd think that since the error is regarding the EMAIL
portion that it would be in the email section of the config. But I can't
see anything there, even when looking at the Advanced section (I see no
such setting about "domain").

The ONLY thing I could find that's even remotely close is in the
Configuration -> General Settings -> Site URL

But I'm not sure if that's the correct spot or not (again, one would
think that the actual process of SENDING the email would rely solely
upon the email settings where you define the SMTP email DNS/IP address
and/or authentication if you use it).

I tried to change IP Address with DNS name and vice versa..Just the
error message got changed but the email delivery failed. Verified smtp

Are you running this on a dedicated server? That's the only other thing
I can think of.
We've got ours in a dedicated SLES11 SP3 server (that's all it runs is
the tomcat and SSPR stuff).
Server name is "generic" like
server12.abc.com

But the DNS names, etc. are different like:
sspr.abc.com

Emails seem to work fine, although I've gotten the error occasionally in
the Configuration Editor, so for grins, I put the SiteURL in there.

Re: WARN: Unable to send email due to error : Missing Domain

I am also running it on a dedicated Sles11sp3 server with only tomcat6
installed. Added SSPR .war file to tomcat directory and running. It is
basically a lab setup to test SSPR functionality but still unable to get
the email going.

All helpful ideas will be highly appreciated.

I'm probably not going to be much help since mine works and I've filled
in the server name as mentioned previously.

However, in our setup we are using a mail relay, so I don't know if your
setup is the same or not.

Possibly if the SSPR server is doing it's own mail serving, that may
change things?

Just an FYI, using 3.1.something of SSPR, I'm seeing the same error, yet
the emails ARE sent properly. I've got an SR open and when/if I find
out anything, I'll let you know.

This is what I got back from the SR regarding the error (although in my
case email IS working, just throwing the error):

If that doesn't solve your problem, you'll need to follow TID 7014795 to
enable debug logging, get the bundle and open an SR.
