install sspr on OES 11 Server

HI All
I try to place sspr on OES 11 server, I do some step like below
1. stop novell-tomcat service (/etc/init.d/novell-tomcat6 stop)
2. mv sspr.war to /var/opt/novell/tomcat6/webapps
3. start novell-tomcat service (/etc/init.d/novell-tomcat6 start)
but I check http://serverIP/sspr or https://serverIP/sspr , it show
"Object not found" , the catalina.out show some message like below

I want to ask whether I connect wrong port or need some extra software ?
(about jre , I use OES default IBM java)

Re: install sspr on OES 11 Server

Can you put it on OES? Probably. Can you do so in a supported way with
the built-in novell-tomcat stuff? Probably not. SSPR requires Sun/Oracle
Java, and it requires the JDK (not just JRE) specifically per the
documentation. If you want to install that and give it separate ports
from anything else, I imagine you're fine.

I did notice that the doc says you need JDK - always puzzled me as recent
tomcat versions specifically call out in the documentation that they don't
need the JDK. I wonder if this documented JDK requirement is still valid
(for tomcat at least)

Re: install sspr on OES 11 Server

I asked a month or two ago and was told that it was, and that the
reference specifically means the Sun/Oracle version at that.

Also, the SSPR docs explicitly call out Java 1.7, which your output shows
is not being used (IBM 1.6).

Re: install sspr on OES 11 Server

HI
The IBM 1.6 java is OES11 default used, so it seem not removed. and
it also could not install java 1.7 with IBM version.
or I have any chance to place SSPR on OES ? (why I want to place SSPR on
OES Server? simply not spent a server which only install SSPR)

Why not? "Installing" Java is as simple as extracting it somewhere. The
same goes for a custom version of Apache Tomcat. Just make sure you give
each application its own set of ports for listening.

Sure, makes sense. Maybe it would be worth looking at doing some
lighter-weight virtualization. Have you considered containers (LXC or
Docker)?

Did the clarification imclude a "why" the JDK from Oracle (Sun) is actually required?

I do not think I asked, and I do not think it was volunteered. Since
downloading one vs. another only changes the download time by about one
second, and the JDK includes the JRE, I've never really cared. Maybe it's
a legacy and outdated thing, or maybe SSPR dose something quirky in
there.... who knows.

jrivard, care to comment?
