Late last year, The Innovation Value Institute agreed to establish IT best practice guidelines for Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and IT professionals in European business, public sector and academic organizations. This initiative aligns with how the CIO role is evolving. The CIO role continues to be very multidimensional and its future is predicated upon understanding the full interplay of identity-aware applications, data security, compliance and automation within and across business processes.
It is commendable for the European Union (EU) to put resources towards guidelines and minimum requirements for IT management positions. This will help ensure that a pipeline of trained professionals, acceptable minimum requirements and certifications are a first step to deepening career paths of future CIOs and other senior IT executives. It is from this foundation that IT professionals will best master the contextual application of technology to people and processes and have the greatest impact on tomorrow’s organizations.
