By Filipe Pinto Ribeiro, EMEA Security and Information Governance Lead

Something very powerful must be happening when an event doubles in size from one year to the next. The Security Risk and Governance Forum (SRG) at Micro Focus Universe (Vienna, March 26-28) attracted over 300 customers and partners this year, in its second edition. Running across a three-day period, the SRG Forum addressed the top challenges facing security and compliance professionals. Through presentations from top customers, Micro Focus experts and partners, the entire event was focused on how to protect what matters the most: identities, apps and data.

I had the pleasure of acting as host for the SRG Forum. Here are my highlights in numbers.

300% Growth

The investments in Cyber Security have been growing at an incredible pace over the past 6 years* and it’s no wonder that the cybersecurity, risk management and industry regulations have climbed to the top of corporate agendas. The security, risk and governance landscape is becoming increasingly complex and difficult to navigate.

As John Delk, GM of the SRG business unit explained in the keynote, ‘point solutions only address narrow problems – we need a holistic, analytics-driven approach to securing what matters most’. With its comprehensive portfolio, Micro Focus has you covered - from Security Operations, App Security, Identity and Access Management, to Data Governance and Protection, Information Archiving and Endpoint Security.

We feel particularly proud of our recent Security Analytics investment in Interset. Stephan Jou, CTO at Interset, was on the keynote stage after John Delk to show how machine learning & analytics can be applied to find the threats that matter.

The SRG Keynote concluded with a session on cyber-crime by Chris Tarbell, former FBI agent who contributed to take down Anonymus and Silk Road. The key recommendation from Chris was to share information and best practices. Hackers are learning through sharing, but we don’t do enough of it.

7 Customer Stories

In the spirit of sharing and learning from challenges and best practices, we had seven of our top customers taking the stage to tell their stories. The real evidence of the value of our solutions comes from those who use it day by day. Our guest speakers represented different experiences from several industries, including insurance, manufacturing, retail, utilities, public sector and telecommunications.

Our thanks go to the speakers that represented companies from all industries across the globe. Our intention was to bring to our customers as many real-world stories and experiences as possible from other customers - and this focus was much appreciated. The networking breaks and customer group dinners witnessed a tremendous energy as further stories were told and best practices shared.

Numerous sessions and workshops

The customer presentations were a fantastic set of examples of what is possible with Micro Focus technology, but we also offered the possibility to gain more product insights and knowledge thanks to our roadmap sessions and workshops.

Our Micro Focus Product leaders presented about the exciting new innovations underway in the Micro Focus labs for the next incarnation of our SRG solutions. Sessions covered the whole portfolio, from ArcSight, Fortify, NetIQ, Voltage, ZENWorks, Retain, Digital Safe, and Secure Content Management to the new Interset.

The majority of our delegates were able to experience first-hand interesting and innovative use cases by joining one of the SRG workshops, led by our Micro Focus experts. Some workshops focused on using single products to achieve a specific objective like ‘Reduce risk on privileged account access with Privileged Account Management’ while others used a combination of products like ‘Privacy, compliance and encryption with ArcSight and Voltage’. All workshops were fully booked and received incredible feedback by the attendees.

A broad set of security solutions

Micro Focus has the industry’s broadest set of integrated security, risk, and governance solutions, so we would not be surprised if you said ‘I did not know you did that.’ Very few vendors can support defense against breach, secure DevOps and the SDLC process, guard the privacy of individuals, and help you comply with regulations at enterprise scale. As the Security, Risk and Governance landscape becomes more complex, we are delighted to welcome more customers and more partners to join the conversation, share best practices, discuss challenges and find solutions together.

If you weren’t able to attend, or for those that want to replay or check out sessions they missed, now you can view Micro Focus Universe on-demand. And make plans to attend next year!
