8.2, mongod high cpu usage

Hello,

I've upgraded my Sentinel demo server from 8.1 to 8.2, it's very low
EPS, operational EPS reports 1 (one).

Anyway it's just a 4 vCPU VM for showing Sentinel and the mongod process
hogs 70-100% CPU all the time.

If I tail mongod.log I see this coming up all the time, even when not
logged into Sentinel, don't know if that has anything to do with the issue:

Mon Jul 30 23:25:34.744 [conn6] command local.$cmd command: { count:
"oplog.rs", fields: null, query: { ns: { $in: [ "alerts.alerts",
"alerts.$cmd" ] }, ts: { $gte: Timestamp 1532954331000|4 } } }
ntoreturn:1 keyUpdates:0 numYields: 2 locks(micros) r:2698238 reslen:48
1821ms

Is this "normal"?

Anything I can do to lower CPU usage?

Thanks

We had this similar situation in version 7.x. The messages you see in the log are exactly the same as saw in our environment. Only solution that worked for us was to setup a another Sentinel server from scratch and then copy the mongodb data from that new installation to replace the faulty one. We got instructions from NetIQ how to do it and i can look if i find them somewhere if you want to try it?

I don't actually need the MongoDB data, I would gladly wipe it out if
necessary. But setting up a brand new server and redeploying collectors
sounds like a lot of work.

You don't need to do any configuring or deploying collectors. Just the basic sentinel install, after running ./install-sentinel you stop sentinel and then copy the MongoDB data.

Here are some instructions for it: https://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=7014786

Don't know if that guide works also for 8.x versions so it's up to you if you want to try it. 🙂

This is great, I misunderstood and thought I would have to move
*everything* over to the new box.
I see that I only need to move the Mongo stuff from the new box to the
old box.

Thanks!
