Problem connecting with ESM

Hi all!!

I have a problem with my Sentinel Log Manager (1.2). Recently I had a
problem
with the service, related with the DB, so Sentinel was not working. I
restart all the
services, and the service is running now, but for some strange reason I
cant connect
using the ESM (javaws application). The message is Sentinel is not
running, but, its running!
Is there a service that I could check, that confirms that all is running
fine?

Could someone helps me?

Thanks!

Look for communication between your system and the server. I do not
remember of 10013/10014 or 61616 (TCP) is used, but that's where you'd
look for communication. Also if the server has a firewall blocking
access (for some reason now where not before) that could be an issue. I
presume you can get to the Web interface to confirm the service is at
least running, but you didn't mention that so I'm just assuming. Also
you could check the server's log files for connection attempts.

Good luck.

Re: Problem connecting with ESM

Hi ab, so much thanks for your reply.

Something strange is happening, web interface is working, I can login
via http://10.10.0.200/novelllogmanager,
so its clear that the problem is on the communication between my PC and
the sentinel Server.
Firewall is disabled on the server...

I just run the ESM jnlp via the server and its working... (via ssh -X)
....

😕 well... I can use via the server, its not a big problem...

That's a great clue. I am going to assume that when you run from your
workstation directly, without sending X via SSH, that you at least get
the ESM login screen followed by the error about Sentinel not running.
This tells us two things:

1. The JNLP file is probably fine. It is helping your workstation pull
the required files from the server in order to launch ESM.

2. ESM's configuration.xml file is probably not fine.

Look under (I think) /opt/novell/sentinel_log_mgr/ for
'configuration.xml' files. There should be one within a Tomcat
directory structure... something like
/opt/novell/sentinel_lo_mgr/3rdparty/tomcat/webapps/ROOT/blah/blah/configuration.xml
.. Once done, look in there for IP addresses and ensure that they point
to this same server via a workstation-accessible IP address; 127.x.x.x
is not allowed, etc. If unsure, post the configuration.xml file here.
Note that this is different from the
/etc/opt/novell/sentinel_log_mgr/config/configuration.xml file that
probably also exists, but is not used by ESM during startup.

Another way to get this file is to look in the JNLP file for ESM and
then copy out the URL of configuration.xml from there. Pull it up in
Firefox/Chrome/whatever and then save the contents out (Save Page As...)
to review them.

Good luck.
