Senitnel 6 Collector Manager and Sentinel 7

Hi

We are currently running Sentinel 6 Classic

On server one Sentinel server is running
On Server two collector Manager is running
On server three Crystal report server is running

We also have IDM 3.6.1 running on other servers
We capture eDir,IDM and iManager events for Sentinel

We want to move from Sentinel 6 to Sentinel 7
All servers are currently running on Windows

Questions:

1. Is it possible to remove only Sentinel server one and install
Sentinel 7 with Linux on it and keep Collector Manager server two as is
?
2. If not what needs to be done to to rectify it and is it easier to
just to move server one and server two to Sentinel 7 with Linux on it?

This may work, but likely will not and either way would not be supported.

If you do not need two servers anymore, using one would be easier, and
may provide you with a nice comparison system while you get all of your
event sources moved over from old to new.

It appears that the least-important system in your setup is your Crystal
server. If you need to get rid of one for this upgrade, make it that
one. If these are all VMs, though, create a new VM and go from there
(maybe power off the Crystal server to free up resources if necessary
for this). Have a backup of any custom reports or whatever if you'd
like to, but this system is replaced by Sentinel 7's native
functionality and searches are about to get a lot faster for you as a
result.

With a new Sentinel 7 machine in place you have a couple options
depending on your current setup and desires. If your current Sentinel
server (the main one) does not have any event sources then you will just
want to move event sources from the CM machine. You could do this
MOST-easily by giving the new Sentinel 7 machine the IP address of the
old Sentinel 6 Collector Manager machine. This is easiest because any
event sources that push events (vs. have them pulled) to Sentinel are
automatically pushing them to the new Sentinel 7 system which is likely
listening and going to receive them happily.

Alternatively you can build and run Sentinel 7 along with your Sentinel
6 CM and then reconfigure event sources individually. If you're
actually on Sentinel 6.1 with current patches as I assume you are then
when the migration utility comes out it can speed up configuration of a
bunch of the other (non-push) event sources for you. It should also be
able to help you move over correlation rules, users, roles, etc.

Good luck.
