I made a similar change. I made 4 endpoints and tried to spread the load
evenly.
Unfortunately, just before my vacation the customer reported backlogged
messages and the Collectors needed to be restarted again.

Did you have better luck spreading the load over multiple Collectors?

Yes, but I just ended up moving the bottleneck from one location to
another (now our Sentinel server buffers)....

We manually manage event sources on the WMI connectors, so I had no need
to set up filters to make sure the event sources didn't re-attach to
another connector on restart.
