(SA) Support Tip: Tools for troubleshooting Device Groups

Dynamic Device Groups (DDGs) can sometimes have a negative impact on SA performance as their memberships are recalculated hourly.

If the rules defining the DDGs are inefficient and/or there are a very large number of DDGs
in the environment, their recalculations can make the SA database very busy.

There is a set of Device Group troubleshooting tools shipped with each SA hotfix rollup which can help in identifying problematic device groups.

The tools are named dgDump, dgTree and dgUsage. They can be found on the following location:

Usage and options for these tools:

• dgDump - View detailed information about dynamic group rules

Usage: /opt/opsware/support/bin/dgDump [-d] [-h] [-t] [<group_id1> ...]

Provides information on dynamic groups.

Each occurrence of this option will increase the debug level.
