Guess what! ServiceDesk 4.5 support extended to the end of 2010!

Jump to solution
Read the announcement here: http://support.openview.hp.com/product_news.jsp#sd4.5 This means the SM7 adoption is not what HP hoped for (read my other posts why I think is that). Even one more reason to sign up ServiceDesk 4.5 open source petition here: http://www.petitiononline.com/HPOVSD45/petition.html By doing it you won't be left without support if you decide to continue with ServiceDesk and I even plan to extend and add features... Some already available:

It would be greater news if HP decided that enough with shooting themselves on the foot and drop the SM7 crap and go back and reimplement -correctly this time- OVSD.

One more thing: sales period for ServiceDesk 4.5 was extended to the end of this year. So if you need new ones or want to get some cheaper (I mean buying for SD and migrating to SM is cheaper than buying for SM directly) there is your chance...

George,

there are 2 main things I would start adding the moment SD is open sourced (or re-animated and I were product manager):

1) Web-based GUI: something like WebConsole but without limitations - with today's technologies it is perfectly possible

2) Changed a bit the system of the DB Rules to accommodate graphical workflow editing.

Some minor enhancements:

3) Graphical CMDB browser (hell, it is available in SD5 and works fine in UCMDB)

4) Ability to manipulate GUI elements (color, fonts, etc. - together with 1)

Otherwise I am quite OK with SD and its abilities. Sure, things could be done here and there but the base is solid, proven and extensible wihout major side effects (unlike SM7/Peregrine). So if you haven't done so, please sign the petition above.
