HP Service manager Performance Tunning

Hi All,

Yuo and me have faced Performance issue in HP Service Manager and  after investigation i decided to give you what i reach and hiope this added value to you:

There some reasons that make performance Issues:

1- Not logic Scenarios between phases , modules ..... etc .

2- Conflict memory sizing between OS , SM APP, JVM and Tomcat Web server.

So i will write as we use OOB SM or nor more customization on it

To  make a good performance :

1-  You must know in what sizing scale you are , [  read the following Docuemnt]

 https://softwaresupport.hp.com/km/KM01391632?lang=en&cc=us&hpappid=202392_OSP_PRO_HPE

2- the second Option is  Shared_memory Option in sm.ini [ Read the following DOC]

http://www.wsp-consulting.de/SM_help/Content/Resources/PDF/shared_memory_guide.pdf

and don't forget that HP Service Manager shared memory is divided into three main areas:

  • User-related memory
  • Information Retrieval (IR) process
  • System table cache

Read This from the previous PDF:

Shared memory in a horizontally scaled environment must be calculated per machine based on how many users this machine handles during peak times.

If the Service Manager Information Retrieval (IR) process is used, the IR Cache section of shared memory should accommodate the size of all IR files that are used.

The default size allocated for IR is 30% of the total shared memory. If this amount does not match the recommended size of shared memory for IR, use the ir_max_shared: parameter to set aside additional shared memory for the IR process.

3- the third Option that , You must adjust Tomcat Java -Opts,  you will do this of you see this error in the log:

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

so you should adjust tomcat - Java Option memory size :

as By default, Tomcat is assigned a very little PermGen memory for the running process.

To fix it, increase the PermGen memory settings by using the following Java VM options.

-XX:PermSize<size> - Set initial PermGen Size. -XX:MaxPermSize<size> - Set the maximum PermGen Size.

IN Catalina.bat,

you can find it in .\bin tomcat dir [ if you download extracted tomcat version]
export
JAVA_OPTS=-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -Xms128m -Xmx1024m -XX:PermSize=1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=2048m

If you download or install tomcat [Self installer Version [tomcatb windows service]

If you have any comments or feedback it will be welcome to reach the target of this

{ it was common problem we have faced}
