How to reduce the size of giant log files in HP Service Manager?

Jump to solution

Hi,

How can we reduce the size of giant log files in Service Manager?

Some of the log files got over 8 and 10 GB, and after setting the maxlogsize:5242880 value in the sm.ini file the files still keep getting bigger.

Is it possible that the huge logs are causing functionality issues in the web application? It gets sporadically unavailable, and restarting Tomcat and the SM application do not solve the issues permanently.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Adding it should also reduce the size of the logs which are already huge?

I don´t think so. Before restart of SM just move/delete the logfile(s).

Have you also added the numberoflogfiles parm?

I've had success at keeping log files down using both the numberoflogfiles as well as the maxlogsize parms together.

Adding these two lines to the end of the sm.ini-file and restarting SM usually does the trick:

maxlogsize:5120000
numberoflogfiles:7

Thanks a lot, I will add the numberoflogfiles entry as well to the sm.ini and let you know about the results.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback, we have renamed the huge files and restarted SM, hopefully the newly created logs won't have any size issues anymore.
