Process Designer - creating new PD module from scratch - dead end ?

Jump to solution

According the marketing stuff and official product documentation (e.g. "Proces Designer Tailoring Best Practices Guide") it is possible to create new PD enabled module in SM (i.e. new table, new security module etc.  to support IT related but non-ITIL processes  e.g. new hire). However the procedure described there leads to nowhere - the newly created module doesn't work.... only works in db Administrative mode, not using PD mechanisms). Where is problem ? Or it is only marketing "falsehood" and PD is hard-coded for standard modules only and nothing more ?

I am not disagreeing with you. In order to get any changes done to the documentation, they first need to be brought up via a support case. Then support verifies whether or not there is a deficiency in the documentation, and if there is they inform R&D. R&D has to make the documentation change.

Is there a specific place (or page) you are stuck at with regards to the actions mentioned in the "Best practices for tailoring Service Manager Codeless module" Guide? This may help expedite addressing your issue.

You would need to create your own State records and any other Document Engine components necessary. You can always use existing records to base your custom ones off of.

Hello,

then please incorporate those "Document engine" steps in the document "Process Designer Tailoring Best Practices Guide (Codeless Mode)" because it simply doesn't work without them...

Thank you

Re: Process Designer - creating new PD module from scratch - dead end ?

Hello Mike,

hmm if PD should be the central tool for cusotmizing SM, then it must be clear how to use it for newly created modules which are often created to support IT-related (but not-ITIL processes) typically between IT and HR, IT and Operations etc. There must be clarity how to create a new ´"PD enabled" module, how to launch it, how to add new records and search/edit/delete records etc. Currently this is gap or white map in the current documentation which only says - yes it is possioble and only outlines rough direction without some necessary steps and details....

Have a nice day and thx.
