how to validate the values entering in comfill button

Jump to solution

Hi

I have a field (comfill button) on RFC form and the values to that field are getting from operator table.

So if some one tries to add the values to comfill button on RFC form it should validate and show the error message if the value entered is not present in operator table.

Please can you people help in acheiveing this?

Thanks & Regards,

DMK

Hi All,

I have acheived the solution to my problem by adding a validation record.

To add validation record in SM follow the below path

db->validity->add the appropriate validation record for the field you want validation based on the values of same field in another table.

Hi DMK,

For a process designer based system like 9.40 Codeless, you can create a ruleset and add it to the workflow based rulesets so it will be executed on any phase of the workflow. You can set it On Update and On Add (for first phase).

Basically the ruleset is a Validate type ruleset where each rule will validate the field is not null and also the value is valid in a table in your case, operator table.

You can go to Tailoring > Process Designer > Rule Sets.

Click New and populate fields, like name and ID Validate Operator. Choose the table for the module you want it to be available like incidents for Service Desk, or cm3r for Change Management.

Save the new ruleset.

Now add a rule, select "Validate against Table" rule type.

Fill the Rule Description and condition (for condion you can use ( Expression: not null(assignee in $L.file)) where assignee is the field you want to validate.

Select the message type you want and finally select table (operator) and field (Login Name) and click OK to finish rule.

Now, once the ruleset is ready, you can go to the workflow in the module to add the ruleset. Go directly to the workflow Edit Workflow Properties button to get access to Workflow Based Actions.

Finally add the ruleset for validation. This should help to prevent users to enters invalid data.

In Codeless, you can also configure the Validate Against Table rule described above to automatically fill the related fields at record save. At the bottom of the wizard panel used to define the validation, there is an option to map fields to be filled, select it and enter the fields to be filled based on the selected operator. This will populate the fields automatically with the values from the operator record after the operator value is validated.

In a non-PD system, you can:

Option 1) define Data Policy Match Field and Match table validations for the fields. This is absolute (it applies to all records) and cannot be bypassed once entered.

Option 2) You could make the values read-only and only populate them using a format control query whenever the selected operator is populated or changed.

  • in format control, define a format control query to the operator table with query similar to name=fieldname in $file. When the query executes, it stores the returned operator record in memory. If the format control query is the third query line, that record and its fields can be referenced as fieldname in $file3.
  • In calculations, populate the related fields using fieldname1 in $file=associatedFieldName in $file3; fieldname2 in $file=associatedFieldName2 in $file3.
  • Alternatively,  a subroutine to call the us.link application can call a fill operation at record save.

You did not indicate if you are using a classic or codeless build. That would help in giving you appropriate solutions.
