upgrading the embedded tomcat in KM which is part of SM 9.60

Hi Team,

We have installed SM 9.60 (Server + Web + KM) on a single server. Customer has come with VAPT where Apache 8.0.45 has been discovered. When i checked it is realted to KM module path <drive>>:/Program files/ Micro Focus/Service Manager 9.60/Search Engine.

SM Apache Tomcat version : 8.5.11
KM Apache Tomcat version : 8.0.45

As i know that this is an embedded tomcat which has come with KM, is it possible to upgrade the KM apache tomcat to the same version of SM apache

Thanks and Regards

Re: upgrading the embedded tomcat in KM which is part of SM 9.60

Hello Vinay,
Thanks for your question.

As per my investigation, I have learned that embedded Tomcat can be updated only with SM patches.

===================================================
Running The Apache Tomcat 8.5 Servlet/JSP Container
===================================================

Apache Tomcat 8.5 requires a Java Standard Edition Runtime
Environment (JRE) version 7 or later.

=============================
Running With JRE 7 Or Later
=============================

(1) Download and Install a Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE)

(1.1) Download a Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE),
release version 7 or later, from
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

(1.2) Install the JRE according to the instructions included with the
release.

You may also use a full Java Development Kit (JDK) rather than just
a JRE.

(2) Download and Install Apache Tomcat

(2.1) Download a binary distribution of Tomcat from:

http://tomcat.apache.org/

(2.2) Unpack the binary distribution so that it resides in its own
directory (conventionally named "apache-tomcat-[version]").

For the purposes of the remainder of this document, the name
"CATALINA_HOME" is used to refer to the full pathname of that
directory.

NOTE: As an alternative to downloading a binary distribution, you can
create your own from the Tomcat source code, as described in
"BUILDING.txt". You can either

a) Do the full "release" build and find the created distribution in the
"output/release" directory and then proceed with unpacking as above, or

b) Do a simple build and use the "output/build" directory as
"CATALINA_HOME". Be warned that there are some differences between the
contents of the "output/build" directory and a full "release"
distribution.

Hope this helps.
BR!

You can submit it as an idea here to upgrade the embedded KM apache tomcat version. https://community.softwaregrp.com/t5/SMA-Idea-Exchange/idb-p/SMA-X-Ideas

Re: upgrading the embedded tomcat in KM which is part of SM 9.60

Hi Jose,

First SM was installed with web and server and later KM module was installed. Along with KM module, Apache Tomcat 8.05.11 was installed. Now customer has raised a VA point on 8.05.x. My question is only we cannot upgrade the KM module along with apache tomcat? OR can we only upgrade apache tomcat of KM module?

Thanks and Regards
