Executing a VBS script that runs an executable file via SilkCentral Test Manager always fails on the Execution server.

Problem:

Executing a VBS script that runs an executable file via SilkCentral Test Manager always fails on the Execution server.

Resolution:

QUESTION
----------------------------------

Executing a VBS script that runs an executable file via SilkCentral Test Manager always fails on the Execution server.

The VBS Script contains the following:

Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WshShell.Run "FileToRun.exe", 1, true

ANSWER
----------------------------------

If your VBS Script is running an executable file, the executable must be saved on the Execution server and the path to the file must be specified within the VBS Script.

i.e if you save the executable on the C drive on the Execution server use

Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WshShell.Run "C:/FileToRun.exe", 1, true

Alternatively if you want SilkCentral Test Manager to automatically copy the executable file to the execution server, the executable file must be saved within you assigned source control profile. When the Execution definition is executed, all the files with the folder specified by the profile, including your executable file will be copied to the working folder on the execution sever. If you specify that the file executed by your VBS Script is contained in the working folder as shown below the vbs script will be successfully executed.

i.e.

Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WshShell.Run "C:/WorkingFolder/FileToRun.exe", 1, true
