How is a Manual Testing Client License consumed and released?

Problem:

How is a Manual Testing Client License consumed and released?

Resolution:

For each manual tester assigned a test that is currently pending execution a license will be checked-out.

To check out and release a Manual Testing Client license:

  • Log into SilkCentral Test Manager
  • Create an Execution definition.
  • Select the execution definition and Click on Deployment tab.
  • Assign a Manual Tester to the execution definition.

  • At this point a MTC license is still NOT checked out.
  • Run the execution definition so that it has a status of “Pending Execution”.
    • NOTE: At this point a Manual testing license IS consumed.
  • Open the “Policy Administrator”
  • View the "SilkCentralManualTestingClient" license
  • A license will now be checked out

  • Open Manual Testing Client for the assigned Manual tester


  • Click "download" button to download pending Manual Tests from SCTM.
  • Execute the Test.
  • It should now appear in the “Completed Runs” tab.
    • NOTE: At this point a MTC license IS still checked out.

  • Upload the completed Manual Test back to SilkCentral Test Manager.

  • NOTE: It is at this point the Manual Testing Client license is RELEASED
  • Go to Policy Administrator and Choose View | Refresh.

  • Notice the “SilkCentralManualTestingClient" License is released
