Why is the SilkTest print output not shown on the messages tab of test definition results dialog?

Why is the SilkTest print output not shown on the messages tab of test definition results dialog?

Problem:

Why is the SilkTest print output not shown on the messages tab of test definition results dialog?

Resolution:

From SilkCentral Test Manager 2008 R2 SP1 onwards the output of the SilkTest type test script (print statements) will not be shown on the messages tab.

The above behaviour is as-designed and has been implemented in SCTM 2008 R2 SP1 in order to improve performance and also keeping in mind that it will be easier to check for the errors or any output messages in the SilkTest results file rather than on the messages tab where there could be many entries.

One can now confirm any output from the testcases by downloading the results [.res] file available from the [Files] tab on the same test definition results dialog.

Alternatively, you could add the following TestCaseExit function to your Silk Test frame.inc file or equivalent which uses the ResExtract function to export the results to a text document which can subsequently be added to the available files for download from SCTM.

[-] TestCaseExit(BOOLEAN bException)
    [ ] ResExtract ("{CurrentPath}\MyResult.txt")
    [ ] DefaultTestCaseExit(bException)
