Why the SCTM installation stops during the "Publishing Product Information" window, and no files are installed ?

Problem:

Why the SCTM installation stops during the "Publishing Product Information" window, and no files are installed ?

Resolution:

When you try to install SilkCentral Test Manager on a computer with Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed, you may see one of the following:

  • 1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime.
  • No error message displays, however the SCTM installation disappears from screen and does not finish and SCTM is not installed. This happens right after "Publishing product information" appears on the screen.

The issue may be caused by improper user privilege settings in Windows that prevent SCTM from installing. The steps to resolve this issue vary depending on the version of Windows. Follow the steps listed below for the version of Windows installed on your PC. You can determine which version of Windows you are using by right-clicking on My Computer and from the shortcut menu, click Properties.

Windows XP Professional

  • On the Start menu, click Control Panel.
  • Open Administrative Tools.
  • Open Local Security Policy.
  • Open Security Settings.
  • Open Local Policies.
  • Open User Right’s Assignement.

  • In the list of policies that appears on the right, open "Impersonate a client after authentication"
  • Verify that both "Administrators" and "SERVICE" are listed.

  • If either is not listed click the "Add User or Group" button.
  • Click the "Object Types" button.
  • Verify that both "Users" and "Groups" are checked off and click OK.
  • In the field labeled "Enter the object names to select" enter the following:
    SERVICE;Administrators
  • Click the Check Names button. If entered correctly, the text should appear underlined. Note that the name of the group "Administrators" may be preceded by your PC name
  • Click OK.
  • Click OK.
  • Restart your PC.
  • Reinstall SCTM.
