Executing individual Test Steps rather than entire Test
I've had a query from a colleague as to whether or not it is possible to re-execute an individual Test Step rather than an entire Test Case.
Scenario: An Execution plan has a number of Manual tests assigned, all Manual tests have completed and 'Passed' with the exception of one Test Step within one Test, the Execution plan has been 'finished'
Once the corresponding defect has been resolved, a new Execution plan has been created to re-run the failed test ...
- Is it possible to single out an individual Test Step within the new Execution plan, or does the entire Test need to be re-run ?
- Is it possible to 'carry over' (copy) the results from a previously finished Execution into a new plan in order to just update the re-tested step?
it is not possible to single out an individual test step - as all the steps together represent the test case.
Hence all steps before the failed test step might have led to this one step failing - consequently you have to re-run the entire test to ensure that this step no longer fails in your test scenario.
For this reason it is also not possible to carry over the results of a previous run - the steps might have passed in the previous run, but are you sure that they still pass for this new fixed version of your product?
