Exporting Manual Tests from Excel..
[Migrated content. Thread originally posted on 09 May 2012]
The SCTM Help Documentation should mention that fact that when using the 'Export to Excel' functionality; a generated file will likely include the Html tags for formatting applied to text in Test or Step Description fields. These tags reside within the Database itself; and if they are removed before uploading modified Tests back to SCTM, all formatting would be lost. The main purpose of Exporting to Excel is to allow users to perform bulk updates; it is not to be used as an ad-hoc Reporting tool.It should also stipulate that the Mapping files used in the Import/Export process; merely associate the columns in the file with Test attributes in SilkCentral. Modifying the Mapping does not influence which columns are included in the generated file, or the order in which they appear.

The HTML is required to maintain the integrity of the data when exported and reimported into Silk Central.
If all tags removed then re-import of data would be unformatted text.
Thanks
