Upgrade to Silk Central to Version 20

Jump to solution

Hi All,

We are planning to upgrade to Silk Central 20 from version 17.0.

We are running Version 17.0 with database MS SQL Server 2012.  In the installation doc of SC 20, it seems that SQL Server 2012 is not supported any more, and it only supports with SQL Server 2014 plus.

How should we upgrade from version 17.0 to Version 20 with SQ Server 2012?  Should we upgrade our DB to 2016 first?  If we have a SQL Server 2016, should we create a new database and import the data from our current database and then upgrade from version 17 to version 20.

Thank you!

Hi @kkyy,

I would recommend to migrate the database from SQL Server 2012 to SQL Server 2016 first:

1. Disconnect the database in Silk Central 17.0 system administration
2. Upgrade database server to 2016 or move database from SQL server 2012 to SQL server 2016 (e.g. backup/restore)
3. Install Silk Central 20.0
4. Connect Silk Central 20.0 to the database on SQL 2016. Silk Central will automatically upgrade the database schema

Regards,
Hubert

Thank you for your input!

Do you think that SC 17 works with MSSQL 2016?  After step 2, we may wait for sometime before we upgrade to SC 20.  We like to use SC17 with MSSQL 2016 for a while.

Thank you!

While not tested and supported by MF for SC 17.0, it will presumably work.
