Error “Could not install and start temporary service” when attempting a remote agent install for SilkPerformer 2010 R2
When installing a SilkPerformer 2010 R2 agent via the remote agent install (PerfRS Manager) you may receive the error "Could not install and start temporary service" in the command line window. If you try to manually launch the SgLauncher you will receive a popup dialogue window saying “The program can’t start because XXX.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem”. (e.g. MSVCR100.dll). SgLauncher is the "Agent-Runtime Launching Process", which runs as a Windows Service on all agent machines.
The issue is caused by an unresolved dependency to the Visual C++ 2010 redistributable which prevents the launch of the temporary service. SP82_Hotfix02_RemoteAgentSetup has been issued to resolve this problem and features a SgLauncher without these dependencies.
